About Us

Jane LaFarge Hamill and Jason Bereswill are married artists living on a farm outside of Lambertville, NJ with their two kids and a bulldog named Martha.

The couple met while receiving their graduate degrees in Painting at the New York Academy of Art. In 2012 they moved out of NYC to a historic farm that needed love. They rehabbed the barn and built studios. In the early days, artist friends would come to visit, make art, enjoy good food and conversation. This naturally led to the land becoming a shared space, ripe for an organized artist residency. In 2021, in the midst of a pandemic, they opened MarthaMOCA. They've hosted between two and five artists each year since, and plan to continue growing.

The design of the residency came about from their own experiences as artists-in-residence. They found their most impactful sojourns included ample time (1 month), solitude, no obligations for an amount of work that needed to be completed, and a rural setting.

MarthaMOCA offers 1 month stays with a $500 stipend to the artists who are selected for the residency program.

The open application period runs from April 1 - 30 each year.
